Purpose and context
What does the Macro Calculator do?
Macronutrients provide energy and serve different physiological roles. This calculator sets protein by body weight, fat by energy percentage and assigns remaining energy to carbohydrate.
Who it supports: Adults using general planning targets.
Transparent calculation
Formula and calculation method
Protein grams are calculated first, fat calories second, and the remaining calories become carbohydrate. Rounded macro calories are checked against the target.
Worked calculation example
At 2,400 kcal, 120 g protein provides 480 kcal; 25% fat provides 600 kcal or 66.7 g; the remaining 1,320 kcal provides 330 g carbohydrate.
The live calculator retains greater internal precision and rounds only when presenting the result.
How to use the Macro Calculator
- Enter adult age, weight and calorie target.
- Choose protein rate and fat percentage.
- Calculate and review grams, calories and percentages.
Understanding your result
The result card identifies the value, unit, method, supporting values and an accuracy notice. Estimated and predicted outputs are labelled so that apparent precision is not mistaken for certainty.

Accuracy, assumptions and limitations
Medical conditions, food preferences, sports demands and digestion may require a different distribution.
Common input and interpretation mistakes
- Adding macro calories that do not match the calorie target.
- Using adult cutting targets for minors.
- Treating one macro split as universally optimal.

Frequently asked questions about Macro Calculator
Displayed grams are rounded, so multiplying rounded grams can create a small difference from the unrounded calculation.
It receives the calories remaining after selected protein and fat allocations.
The selected method expresses protein as grams per kilogram, a common way to scale targets.
Not without qualified guidance; medical conditions can require different nutrient targets.
