Purpose and context
What does the TDEE Calculator do?
Total Daily Energy Expenditure is the energy used across a full day. This calculator models it by multiplying predicted resting energy by a broad activity factor.
Who it supports: Adults selecting the activity description that best represents their usual pattern.
Transparent calculation
Formula and calculation method
The shared energy engine calculates resting energy, then applies the selected factor from 1.2 to 1.9. A ±10% context range is also shown.
Worked calculation example
A resting estimate of 1,730 kcal/day multiplied by 1.55 gives about 2,682 kcal/day of estimated TDEE.
The live calculator retains greater internal precision and rounds only when presenting the result.
How to use the TDEE Calculator
- Enter adult age, equation category, height and weight.
- Choose the most representative activity description.
- Calculate maintenance energy and compare the central estimate with its context range.
Understanding your result
The result card identifies the value, unit, method, supporting values and an accuracy notice. Estimated and predicted outputs are labelled so that apparent precision is not mistaken for certainty.

Accuracy, assumptions and limitations
Activity categories cannot precisely capture step count, occupation, training volume, thermic effect of food or day-to-day variation.
Common input and interpretation mistakes
- Choosing an activity factor from exercise alone while ignoring the rest of the day.
- Treating the estimate as a fixed intake prescription.
- Double-counting exercise calories.

Frequently asked questions about TDEE Calculator
TDEE represents resting metabolism plus the modeled energy cost of daily activity and food processing.
Choose the description that best reflects usual structured exercise and daily movement, then calibrate against observed trends.
Movement, training, food intake, sleep and physiology are not identical each day.
Track consistent body-weight and intake trends for several weeks and adjust the starting estimate from observed results.
