How it works

Method

Characters are drawn with the operating system's cryptographically secure random source (PHP random_int). One character is taken from each selected set so every chosen type appears, the remainder comes from the combined pool, and the result is shuffled with the same secure source. Entropy = length × log2(pool size).

Units

Length in characters (8 to 128). Entropy in bits.

Examples

  • Length 16 with lower-case, upper-case and numbers draws from 62 characters: about 95 bits.
  • Length 12 with all four types draws from 85 characters: about 77 bits.

Limitations

The password is generated on the server and sent over your encrypted connection; it is not stored or logged. Entropy is an estimate for a randomly generated password and says nothing about passwords you invent yourself. Use a password manager to keep it.
